Posted by Muhammed Posted on Friday, August 23, 2013

Outlook

Microsoft outlook is a powerful desktop client application for send and receive mails. It is pretty easy to use and configure. Also it provides lot more features like calendar, tasks, follow up, reminders etc…

Here I would like to share a simple tweak to copy outlook settings which you can use to configure the outlook in new system. When you reconfigure outlook manually there will not have much hassle if you have only single email address. Consider you have “N” number of email address and that need to be reconfigured in new system, the manual configuration will not be easy as like it is. So before format or uninstall outlook, just copy the outlook settings from the registry and import it on new system. For sure this will make the transition process much faster than manual configuration. For this follow the below steps

1. Move the outlook data base (.pst) from the location
%user profile%AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ outlook.pst to the new system. (PST file name and location will vary depend on your outlook configuration. Also keep in mind when you move  the PST file, you need keep the same directory path on new system)

2. Open registry and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem Export Profile settings to the desktop

Registry Editor

3. Move the exported .reg file to the new system desktop and run the file to  import the settings to the registry

4. Open outlook in new computer and do a send and receive. In first time you will be prompted to enter the password of email addresses and you just need to add the password and save it.

5. You are done and your outlook have configured with all the old settings on other computer.

Note: it copies only your emails and outlook configuration settings. For contacts and other features like auto fill, you need to take a back up manually.

Combine all your Email Addresses into One place Outlook.com

Outlook

Microsoft lets you send and receive email from your other email accounts using Outlook.com interface. If you have another email account with POP3 access, you can configure Outlook to receive, read and send email from that POP3 account.
If you have one or more existing email accounts that you want to receive email from in your Outlook.com inbox, you can use either email forwarding or Outlook.com’s mail fetching feature.

Email forwarding

In Email forwarding when your other email account receives email, it will immediately forward the new mail to your Outlook.com inbox with minimal delay. However, this requires that your other email account has support for email forwarding. If it doesn’t, you can use the mail fetching feature below.
First, log into the account where you want to forward email from. If you’re using Gamil account, open the settings screen from the gear menu and select Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Then Click on Add a forwarding address and provide the address of your main Outlook.com account and confirm the same.Once you done, when your Gmail account receives email, it will automatically forward the email to your main Outlook.com inbox.
Email forwarding

Note that you need to log into other email account once in a year because webmail providers may have some restrictions and they may delete your account if it is inactive for a long time.
Repeat this process for each email address you want to receive email from in your main inbox.

Mail Fetching

You can use this feature if your other email account doesn’t support automatic mail forwarding. It will work with any email account that supports the standard POP3 protocol. After setting up mail fetching, Outlook.com will automatically check your other email account for new email and pull it into your Outlook.com inbox. It works like an email client.
It has some limitations. It’s limited to a maximum of 50 messages, which are fetched every 30 minutes. If you have more than 50 messages to receive, they’ll be grabbed by Outlook.com at the next 30-minute refresh. For this reason, mail forwarding is a faster, better solution if your other account supports it.
1. To set up mail fetching, click the Sending/receiving email from other accounts link under Managing your account.

2. Click the Add an email account link on this page.

3. Provide the email address and password of your other account. Outlook.com will try to determine the appropriate POP3 email server settings automatically, but you can also click the Advanced Options link and enter your other email account’s server information by hand.

3. You’ll be asked whether you want to receive the email in your inbox or in an account-specific folder.

4. Once you done, you have to log into the email account and click a confirmation link before Outlook.com will start showing you the account’s email.
You can add up to four different POP3 accounts on the Sending/receiving mail from other accounts page.

Send Mail from other email account using outlook.com

Like receiving emails from other account, you can send mails from other account using outlook.com.  For this set up Outlook.com’s “send Mail from feature”.
When you set up an account with the mail-fetching feature and click the link in the confirmation email, it will automatically be set up as a new “Send Mail From” address. If you used the email forwarding method above or want to add a different email account, click the Add another account to send mail from link and provide the other email address you want to send mail from and click the Send verification email button.

Connect your Facebook and Twitter account from Outlook.com

Posted by Muhammed Posted on Sunday, September 02, 2012
Microsoft rolled out Outlook.com recently and it’s started to eventually replace the current Hotmail service to Outlook.com. There are number of new features available in Outlook.com and one of the coolest features is, it lets you connect with other social media services like Facebook, Twitter, Google, LinkedIn, and Flickr.
To get started with this you will actually need to visit your Microsoft account  and you can click the “Add accounts” option from the left menu bar.  This will take you to a screen that displays available accounts to connect with.  Those already connected can be found under “Manage your accounts”.

Click on the service you want to access in Outlook.com then choose the “Connect” button and it will take you a screen where you give Microsoft access to manage my contacts.
If you haven’t signed up yet for an account, you can visit Outlook.com.

Microsoft launched a new web mail service Outlook.com

Posted by Muhammed Posted on Thursday, August 02, 2012
Microsoft has launched a new web mail service Outlook.com. Chris Jones, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Windows Live services, said that Outlook.com is available to users in preview form from today. "It offers the first major improvement to cloud mail in eight years," he said. "We think the time is right to re-imagine personal email, from the datacenter to the user experience."

The lighter and simple User interface makes it amazing. The new email service comes with "virtually unlimited" storage and integrates Skype. Navigation through the menus and tools are very easy, surprisingly you could not see a single piece of advertisement as you see on other mail service providers.
Currently all Hotmail or Microsoft Live users can log into Outlook.com using their existing ids. "Hotmail users can upgrade to Outlook.com and will get the new user experience but will continue to send/receive mail from their @hotmail.com address. Hotmail users that upgrade will use the same username/password to login; all their mail, contacts, and calendar items will still be available in the new user interface.
Currently you will see Outlook.com as a front end for their Hotmail.com but later Hotmail.com will be disappeared. Undoubtedly it will become the best mail service offered.

Microsoft Outlook - Hyperlinks Fail to Work

Posted by Muhammed Posted on Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Outlook
Sometimes it’s been seen that the hyperlinks fail to work on email systems like Outlook Express, Outlook and any other Email Programs after installing windows updates or installing/uninstalling browsers. This is likely to be a problem with default browser settings and here are the steps you can reset the default browser settings.

Windows Vista/7

1. Open the Windows menu.
2. Type "default programs" (not including the quotation marks) under Start Search.
3. Click Default Programs under Programs.
4. Now click set your default programs.
5. Highlight Internet Explorer under Programs.
6. Click set this program as default.
7. Now click OK.
8. Close the default programs window.

Windows XP

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click Tools from the menu
3. Select Internet Options.
4. Click the Programs tab
5. Click the button labeled Make Default.
6. Click OK.
Test a hyperlink in Outlook to see if the web page opens in Internet Explorer. If that fails, continue with the following.
1. Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Run dialog box, and then click OK:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
2. Repeat step 1 for each of the following commands:
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll
As before, test to see if your Outlook hyperlink problem has been resolved. Refer Microsoft KB Article for more info.
